The Daily, News Corp.’s brand new iPad-only publication, has released an update and extended the free preview of the app until March 21. The app was launched on February 2 with a two-week free trial, but users complained of slow load times, bugs, and frequent crashes. In a February 6 blog post, The Daily team admitted there were “some stability issues and bugs that need to be addressed in the app.” “The new app focuses on the two things you requested most: better stability and more responsiveness,” The Daily team said in a blog post. Greg Clayman, publisher of The Daily, said earlier this week that the no-cost preview would “continue for several more weeks, at least.” Today, the publication made it official, though after March 21, The Daily will be $0.99 a week or $39.99 a year.
Despite the stability issues, The Daily is reportedly preparing to extend its audience. Shortly after the publication was launched, a source told PCMag that a version of the app will be developed for Android-based tablets within the coming months. Multiple sources have reported this week that the Android launch is coming in the next quarter.
