The Plano Independence Day Parade
Presented by the Plano Early Lions Club, the Plano Independence Day Parade is a real fourth of July treat. The Plano Independence Day Parade is held each year at the intersection of Independence Parkway and Parker Road in Plano, Texas. For 28 years, this parade has dazzled both young and old. My husband and I attended the parade in 2007 along with our two children. The parade began with a visit from Mary Jo Dean, the Parade Grand Marshal. Then there were floats by the 4 Keeps Quartet, the Plano Angels, and the Plano Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Then the Freedom Rings float passed by with a lady dressed as the Statue of Liberty, and the Plano Republican Women float appeared. Captain America also made an appearance in the parade. By far the highlight of the parade was a group of highly ornate Chinese dragons which were animated by young men from the Shaolin Hung Gar Kung Fu Academy of Dallas, Texas. Several cool old vehicles showed up, including an old fire engine marked “Engine 167.” We also got to see Sparky the Firedog. The Plano Independence Day Parade is absolutely free and candy is distributed by the parade-goers. (972) 985-8260
